Planning A Workshop
Thank you for your interest in my Painting the Impressionist Landscape Travel Workshops and for your willingness to organize a workshop in your community. Traveling helps me bring this exciting color theory to you and your friends.

The workshop

The workshop is based on my book, Painting the Impressionist Landscape. Classes are open to artists of all levels. I prefer participants to paint in oils or pastels, but I can accommodate watercolorists.

The workshop will concentrate on landscape painting. We will paint still life only if the weather is bad and we find ourselves indoors.

Planning & Organizing

The two most important requirements for a workshop are students and location. If I am running our workshop privately, your friends and fellow artists have first choice for signing up. I have an extensive mailing list which probably has a number of people from your area who would fill in the rest.

If I am sponsored by an art or workshop organization in your area, their members are given priority for attending.

Secondly, we will need a place for an opening night get-together and a large room to accommodate the group if we have a rainy day. An advantage to working under the auspices of an art group is that they usually have studio space. If not, many communities rent space in community centers, local clubs or church basements. In this case I will pay a stipend for use of such a facility.

The minimum size of a workshop is about 10-12 students. The maximum size usually depends on the size of the room provided for the indoor work. If the room is really large, I prefer to cap the size of the class to 20 people.

I will also need a place to stay during the workshop. Meals, traveling expenses depends on each workshop. I will rent a car for convenience.

Slide Shows /Demonstrations

I would be happy to do a public demonstration/lecture one night during the workshop week. This could either be free and open to the public for public relations purposes or exclusively for the organization sponsoring me.

Publicity

All workshop information (such as art materials, travel tips) is provided here at my website. If our workshop is planned well enough in advance, it will be included my advertising in many of the Art Magazines. If we work with an art group who will also do their own advertising, I will provide extra information & photos. Those people without internet access will get the information via mail.

Housing

Generally, most of my travel workshops are filled with local people. In the case that there are participants coming from out of the area, we will need to provide them with information on nearby lodging. One or two choices is usually enough.

Schedule

The workshop is held from Monday through Friday with an informal gathering on Sunday night. This is a casual get together to give everyone a chance to get acquainted and I present a slide lecture where many of the concepts and objectives for the week are introduced. It gives me a chance to get to get everyone excited and get creative juices flowing! This slide show can be open to the public or the art organization if we are sponsored in any way.

The workshop begins on Monday Morning at 9 AM until - 5 PM, with a one hour lunch break.

Tuition

$450.00 per participant is the going rate for most workshops. There are no single day sign-ups. A deposit of $100.00 is required to hold a place with the balance due one month before the workshop. Refunds of $50 can be made up to one month before each workshop. No refunds given for no-shows or withdrawals after the workshop has begun.

Confirmation

A detailed registration kit will be mailed to each participant as confirmation of their enrollment.

What else ?

Organizing a workshop takes time, planning and effort. I will handle all of the sign-ups and tuition if we are holding it independently. If an art organization is sponsoring me, I will discuss these details directly with them.

Anyone who helps me organize a workshop or introduces me to an art organization gets free tuition. I also give free tuition to anyone who houses me during my stay or supplies the workshop with a place to work or meet. In addition, the person responsible for the main organization of a workshop also receives free tuition for any other workshop with me.
